I love to read. I was not quite as advanced as John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, who was reading by the age of 4 (I was 5!), but one of my most vivid memories growing up was reading The Hobbit for the first time at around 10 years old. After telling my parents about it, Mom read it out loud to the 5 of us kids, and then went on to read us the Lord of the Rings series. It was awesome! This deskoration depicts Tolkien's beautiful monogram for 'JRRT'.
The wood is 4" square and 1/4" thick hard maple, cut by hand on a scroll saw. It's finished with 3 coats of a water-based polyurethane for water resistance, and backed with 1/8" thick cork painted to highlight the design - these deskorations can double as coasters! Each deskoration is unique since hard maple wood grain is quite variable, so every deskoration is unique.
Be sure to order a stand to proudly display your new purchase on your desk or mantel - you can find the stands here: https://centuryartisans.com/products/deskoration-stands
By the way, did you know Tolkien was in a literary discussion group called The Inklings with C.S. Lewis (author of the Chronicles of Narnia series, among many other books). Lewis thought so highly of him that in 1961 he nominated Tolkien for a Nobel Prize in Literature!
