The wood is 4" square and 1/4" thick maple, cut by hand on a scroll saw. It's finished with 3 coats of a water-based polyurethane for water resistance so it can double as a coaster. It's backed with 1/8" thick cork painted to highlight the design. The grain of all hardwoods is quite variable, so every deskoration is unique.
